Well, we have some AMAZING news… We have been chosen as winners of the ‘Net Hero’ category at The Small Awards!
What an incredible achievement! Totally unexpected, we honestly can’t believe it!
We were shortlisted alongside some amazing businesses. Businesses who we have the upmost admiration that we would firstly like to mention and share their wonderful work:
FETCH.IT started from their own frustrations of the plastic dog poo bag. Like many dog owners, they believed the biodegradable poo bag was an eco-friendly alternative but soon realised these take decades to degrade into micro plastics.
Their solution was to create a 100% compostable poo bag which degrades into natural biomass within weeks, leaving behind no micro plastics. They have also designed and produced the UK’s first compostable wet mitt which was their solution to nasty wet wipes and cleaning muddy paws after our British weather walks.
The mitts have been made in UK so they have managed to reduce their carbon footprint and support a local business. Incredibly, they have achieved all of this as a team of two, both working full time in the NHS alongside running the business.
Vindico, developers of Think Air – self-funded, bespoke low-cost sensors and software platform that’s raising awareness and understanding of air quality across Wales. It’s the only project in the UK to take on the challenge on this scale, and it’s changing the way we understand – and measure – the impact of toxic air at a local level.
They have already donated sensors across seven UK counties, and have educated businesses, schools, and local councils about air pollution and behavioural change. Their Head of R&D, and Swansea University Professor Emeritus, Paul Lewis leads this initiative. He also sits on government advisory panels and is a current contributor to the Welsh Assembly’s Clean Air Act of 2020. Today, Think Air is on track to being the largest live Air Quality sensor network in Wales – and the largest in the UK by the end of 2021.
We wanted to share the spotlight with our fellow Small Awards finalists. We are all seeking solutions for a brighter future. Something that we at Local e Sourced have an avid interest and passion in.
Local e Sourced is not just an online marketplace. There is more to us than meets the eye. In addition, we will never stop striving to help those around us. Working toward a more sustainable and brighter future together. As the saying goes, ‘No one can do everything, but everyone can do something’. Ourselves, Vindico and Fetch.it are all fantastic examples of what we can do and achieve together. We are very proud and honoured to be mentioned in the same breath as you both.
Thank you to the team at The Small Awards and the judges who recognised our work in the Net Hero category. This will inspire us to do even more. We hope that our drive and passion will in turn inspire those around us. We’re incredibly honoured to be the first ever winners of this brand-new category.
Recognition of this magnitude will help our little business enormously.
We will share the limelight with everyone involved and continue to build on our efforts. It is also our hope that it will encourage new suppliers to join us as our journey continues.
We are absolutely over the moon. Check out Hamish’s winning interview on Facebook here. When we catch up with the lovely Rachel Jones we will upload some more photos. Rachel – we apologise for not catching you tonight but can’t wait to catch up. Thank you for your support throughout as well, we really do appreciate it. Hopefully together we can rally the county and create some as special as it is unique!
Congratulations to all the other wonderful finalists and winners at The Small Awards too. We had a fab evening! All four of us joined in and it was great to be involved in such a fantastic event. However we do hope we’ll be able to meet you all and raise a glass together soon.
Thanks also to everyone as always for your unrivalled support with this project. This has been a dream for all of us and above all without you all, it would not be what it is today.
…Finally, we’re just going to let this sink in now! Cheers!
