We were delighted to be able to have a quick chat with Andrew Easton (thank you!) on BBC Hereford & Worcester yesterday evening!
You can click the video to listen or read the transcript below!
Andrew: A group of food & drink producers from Herefordshire have come together to try and raise awareness of what is grown, made right here on our doorstep. Local e Sourced is a new online shop you can get everything you need – bread, eggs, strawberries, pet food, gin – sounds like a cocktail itself! Chris Tipping is from Local e Sourced – Hi Chris!
Chris: Hi Andrew, how’s it going, you alright?
Andrew: It’s going mate yeah thank you. So, was this a lockdown idea or was this happening anyway?
Chris: We dreamt the idea up last year. We were originally going to bring out an online marketplace for local suppliers but because of the nature of the crisis, we decided to bring it forward to support Herefordshire’s independent businesses through this time of crisis. Get as many people trading online as possible really. It has been a mad couple of weeks, put it that way!
Andrew: I bet it has! So what does the site do? Who is it for? Everyone I suppose?
Chris: Yeah, so open to any Herefordshire independent businesses at the moment. We’re now listing everything from, as you already said, gin, beer, garden tools, pet food – we’re looking at clothing, we’re looking at lots of different areas really just to get people trading as much as possible. It’s a big marketplace for local suppliers! It has gone really well, averaging over 500 visits a day, already sold over 800 individual products locally and nationally.
Andrew: How does it work? For example if, I appreciate there’s a minimum spend on there, but have you got a big warehouse full of food somewhere, because if I order a jar of chutney and a bottle of Stowfords, it’s surely coming from different places – how does it work?
Chris: No, all in one place! We’ve got a warehouse, we speak to the suppliers and stock products in our own warehouse unless there is another arrangement with individual suppliers but a majority of products are stocked in our own warehouse. The idea is to have one shopping basket and checkout online with it all in one place.
Andrew: Onto it – I’m way ahead of you! Doing it! I’m there – with bells on! I think this could also be the future as the year rolls on, I think this is something we’ll see longterm, don’t you?
Chris: I agree, I think it helps people embrace digital and continue to trade really. There’s going to be a new normal and I think this is going to support how people trade in the future.
Andrew: Good luck with it, I’m sorry we didn’t have more time but we’ll get you on again to talk and see how it’s going. Thank you very much indeed. Look them up – Local e Sourced are the outfit and you can get all your stuff there!
Thank you to the team and yourself Andrew for taking the time to chat to us on your show. We appreciate it!
