Local e Sourced has been live for just over 10 weeks now.
Local e Sourced was born out of a desire to help those who needed it during the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing lockdown. This threw up many challenges for small businesses. Those who would not have had the capital to simply batten down the hatches and see out the storm. We opted to develop a platform, not too dissimilar to Amazon or Etsy, where all our local suppliers could add their products, for free, to help reach a wider market. This is not limited to just Herefordshire food suppliers – any and all local independent suppliers are very much welcome!
As shops closed and we were encouraged to shop online to avoid contracting the virus, this meant that those with or without an online presence had to embrace it regardless. For those without or even just the obligatory online shop which was part and parcel of having a business it meant shifting from trade stalls at markets and shows to focusing solely on selling online to survive.
Part of our team are full time digital marketers. They know that to do this and see the results in such a short space of time (using legitimate techniques and not trying to ‘cheat’ Google) was not viable. Instead of focusing on an individual effort, focus on a collective effort.
A collective effort?
What we mean is there are so many wonderful suppliers and products in the county – some bigger than others. By adding this range of products on a single site with a single delivery charge means that shoppers can try a product or two from a supplier they may not have bought from before. By adding this product to their basket means they are not checking out with a single product and the additional delivery fee. Instead this delivery price is set and you can add as much as you like from as many suppliers as you like without worrying about how much it’ll all cost to be delivered. You can enjoy a range of wonderful Herefordshire food, drink and other unique products on the site!
To elaborate on the collective effort…
We and the suppliers who saw potential in the idea who joined and together we can help themselves as well as helping others. The wider the range, the more suppliers to choose from would create an incredible experience for a shopper. Reaching customers they might not normally reach while collectively promoting the wonderful products we, as a county, are able to offer on Local e Sourced.
With a genuine passion for promoting the county and everything in it, Local e Sourced, as you may have read in a previous article, was an idea we had and were implementing ready for a summertime launch. However, things changed rapidly…
With the pandemic and the onset of lockdown, everybody’s lives and way of life changed instantly.
We saw the need for our project immediately – there was no time to waste. We brought the launch forward to the end of April – as quickly as we could without compromising what we had to offer. It had to be right, it had to add value and it had to be now. Showcase to the nation all the amazing Herefordshire food, drink, clothing sweet treats and many, many other products sourced locally.
The unusual circumstances surrounding the pandemic and lockdown meant to many that an untested platform seemed like a gamble. A gamble that, by the way things were going, was best avoided. We addressed this by encouraging suppliers to join, for free. Eliminating any idea of a reckless gamble during what would prove to be very testing times for many.
With nothing to lose and everything to gain, many joined. Without them, Local e Sourced would be nothing. We are grateful and will ensure that being a pat of Local e Sourced will be mutually beneficial. We’re creating a showcase of our county’s offerings and we want every supplier to be a part of this. With over 60 suppliers on the site as we write this, we are making incredible progress.
We are driven by passion
Local e Sourced has been derived, developed, run and marketed by a team of 4. All this is in addition to day jobs. This is something that we saw the need for and so it was born. Help those that needed help, promote the county, the businesses and products within. Furthermore, help those who weren’t prepared, transition into an online marketplace.
We have received incredible support from current suppliers, customers and generally across all social media. We urge those on the fence about joining to try out the system – for free. See for yourself how much added value it brings to your business.
Any and all Herefordshire food, drink and product suppliers are very much welcome.
It doesn’t matter what your products is – the wider the range we can offer the better! This also applies to those reluctant to join as a product similar to theirs is already established itself. There is no competition on the platform. It is a level playing field for all and ultimately we aim to benefit all involved.
Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions.
We look forward to welcoming you soon!
