We’re delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for the Start-Up Entrepreneur of the Year category at the 2020 Great British Entrepreneur Awards for The Midlands region!
We’ve beaten off some incredibly stiff competition & we are officially a Great British Entrepreneur Awards finalist.
We are very proud of this achievement. Despite a very tough year for so many, we have helped others & that was our intention from the beginning with Local e Sourced! Thank you & we hope you’ll continue to shop local with us!
A bit about us so far…
Being surrounded by the great British countryside makes one incredibly grateful. In Herefordshire we are blessed with a wealth of food, drink and products. Having grown up observing and experiencing the people and the produce of our county, we were astounded by the range and the quality. We had the idea that despite what the county had, many either hadn’t tried the products or even knew of them. What we set out to do last year was invite all the suppliers to come together and create a unique local marketplace. A marketplace that would consist of everything produced locally. We would be able to showcase these products to a nationwide audience as well as celebrating everything the county has to offer.
We set about working out how to do this. Herefordshire is not short of proud Herefordians who would love nothing more than to tell the world about what is on our doorstep! We reached out to suppliers, outlining that they could add their products alongside others and shoppers could purchase any number of goods from any number of suppliers with a single delivery charge. The potential reach this would have and putting their products in front of perhaps a new audience had the interest of local independent businesses.
Then, the pandemic and ensuing lockdown happened.
We had to bring the idea to life immediately – to help the local suppliers who were feeling the effects of closing their shops. The website and branding was developed within weeks – launching on the 30th April.
We gave suppliers a new or alternative route to market. With the circumstances changing how people live their lives, online shopping would be a significant part of this. With shopping habits dramatically changing – it was time to encourage the county to support their local suppliers. You can do this via our platform instead of the supermarket giants. Our goal was to heavily push our local offerings and keep local suppliers in businesses. It was time to use them or lose them. We came to market at a time when everybody needed a little extra help.
Local e Sourced was live – 4 months before we had planned.
Due to launch in the summer (August 2020) – we brought his forward to help our local suppliers continue trading. It was the right time in terms of offering support through something new and unique. As we write this, Local e Sourced has been live for exactly 3 months. The company was incorporated on March 24th. It has been a whirlwind couple of months however!
Here are some of our latest figures:
- Over 75 suppliers using the site
- Offering over 700 products on the site
- Over 450 single local products sold multiple times all over the UK
- Ecommerce conversion rate of over 2%
- Over 3 million views across multiple platforms
- Over 243,000 page views
- Average of 350 visits per day
The success of this project is down to our suppliers joining us. Allowing us to add their products and you, our very valued customers. You are the ones are helping to support local independent businesses through our platform.
